We are seeking a senior Commercial Director to build and lead a high-impact commercial function within a private equity–backed materials business. Reporting directly to the CEO, this highly visible role works closely with executive leadership and the Board and is positioned to grow into a Chief Commercial Officer role.

This is a true builder position for an industry veteran who thrives in standalone environments and is motivated to design, structure, and scale a world-class commercial organization.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead company-wide commercial strategy, including business development and key account management
• Build and scale the commercial function from the ground up
• Own complex, high-value negotiations and long-term customer agreements
• Establish disciplined commercial processes, pricing frameworks, and pipeline management
• Serve as the primary commercial partner to executive leadership, customers, and investors
• Present with credibility, polish, and strong business acumen
• Build and lead related functions under the Commercial umbrella, including sales and customer service

Must-Have Mindset 

• Structure: Ability to build scalable systems and processes
• Negotiations: Proven success closing complex, high-value deals
• Relationships: Exceptional internal and external relationship management

Qualifications 

• 15–25+ years of commercial leadership experience in high-volume materials or industrial sectors
• Background in battery materials, lithium, performance materials, chemicals, upstream energy, or related industries
• Proven success securing $20M+ individual customer contracts
• Experience building or rebuilding commercial organizations
• Comfortable operating independently while scaling teams
• Highly polished communicator with strong executive presence
• Experience working with private equity and boards preferred
