Job description

A Controller is needed for a construction corporation based in Monterey on a direct hire basis. The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, budgeting, and closing periods. This role requires a deep understanding of construction accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily financial operations of the company, including managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger staff.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage budgets and forecasts, providing analysis of variances and trends.
  • Collaborate with project managers to analyze project budgets, cost controls, and profitability.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support business growth and efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and changes that may impact financial reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field OR work equivalency will suffice
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance, with at least one year in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Experience with project management software is a plus.
