A large construction company is seeking a Project Accountant on a direct hire basis. The Project Accountant will manage all financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. The Project Accountant will also collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other team members to ensure financial controls are in place, project profitability is maximized, and all project financials are reported accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting for assigned construction projects.
- Track project costs and ensure they align with budgeted amounts, identifying any discrepancies.
- Review and approve project-related invoices, purchase orders, and payment applications.
- Prepare and maintain detailed financial records for each project.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare cash projections for ongoing projects.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of project scope, contract terms, and financial requirements.
- Work with project managers to identify financial risks and recommend solutions.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, including cost-to-complete forecasts, budget updates, and project profitability analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of project financials to senior management.
- Assist with reviewing subcontractor agreements and change orders, ensuring proper documentation and cost control procedures.
- Track and manage subcontractor billing, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
- Ensure project billings are issued in accordance with contract terms and project timelines.
- Reconcile project-related financial accounts to ensure accurate financial records.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and reports.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations, including tax reporting and financial auditing standards.
- Act as a liaison between project managers, field teams, contractors, and finance departments to provide timely and accurate financial management support.
- Attend project meetings to provide financial updates and support project decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required as work equivalency will suffice.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting or project accounting, preferably within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Procore, etc.).
- Strong understanding of construction cost accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, and cost control processes.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of construction industry standards, regulations, and best practices is a plus.
