Senior Accounting Manager

Midtown Manhattan (Hybrid – 3 days in office)

$140k – $155k base + bonus

About the Role
Join a leading organization in the retail sector as a Senior Accounting Manager, where you will oversee and enhance Accounts Payable operations while leveraging your General Ledger (GL) accounting expertise. This role is critical for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial operations. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will lead a substantial AP team, drive process optimization, and support key financial activities to contribute to the company’s growth and success.

This hybrid role offers the opportunity to be based in Midtown Manhattan three days a week while contributing to a high-impact leadership position in the Retail industry. Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Operations:

    • Manage daily financial operations, including Accounts Payable and GL Accounting.
    • Lead and develop an AP team of at least 4 members, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
    • Collaborate closely with the Controller to ensure accurate and timely financial deliverables.
  2. Process Improvement:

    • Identify and implement enhancements to AP and GL processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
    • Champion automation and technology solutions to streamline workflows.
    • Ensure robust documentation and compliance with financial regulations.
  3. Vendor and Payment Oversight:

    • Oversee payment processes to ensure compliance with legal, tax, and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor AP Aging reports and maintain timely, accurate vendor payments to support strong relationships.
    • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with payment processors and third-party vendors.
  4. GL Accounting Support:

    • Collaborate on month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Provide support for financial reporting and internal control documentation.
  5. Reporting & Insights:

    • Prepare and present AP and financial reports to senior management, offering actionable insights.
    • Support enhancements to payment systems to accommodate evolving business needs.
  6. Compliance & Controls:

    • Maintain and document internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and financial standards.
    • Support internal and external audits with accurate, timely information.
  7. Strategic Initiatives:

    • Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to company-wide financial goals.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of a team of at least 4 people in AP operations. GL Accounting experience is required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting. Proficiency in systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite and advanced Excel skills.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under tight deadlines.
