Job description

We have a company seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller with a background in the construction industry and Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in all accounting functions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage WIP schedules, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting for all ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers to analyze job costing, budget variances, and profitability metrics.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including forecasts and budgets.
  • Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and insights.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships to optimize financial performance.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of WIP accounting and job costing.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks or Sage 300).
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with large data sets.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
