We have a prestigious family office in Anaheim, California, managing substantial assets and investments for high net worth individuals. Their team is dedicated to providing exceptional financial stewardship, personalized service, and strategic planning to meet the unique needs of our clients. They are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our close-knit team and oversee all accounting functions.

Job Summary: The Controller will play a pivotal role in managing the financial activities of the family office, including overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, optimizing financial processes, and providing strategic insights to support the long-term financial goals of our high net worth clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family office accounting, with a focus on tax planning, investment accounting, and trust management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and cash flow analyses.
  • Coordinate and oversee tax planning, compliance, and reporting for individuals, trusts, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors, legal counsel, and investment managers to ensure accurate tax filings and compliance.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Manage investment accounting, including tracking investment performance, capital calls, distributions, and valuations.
  • Assist with estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership and family members.
  • Stay current with changes in tax laws, accounting regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and optimize financial strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a family office, private wealth management, or high net worth environment.
  • Strong knowledge of tax planning, compliance, and reporting for high net worth individuals, trusts, and partnerships.
  • Experience with investment accounting, including equities, real estate, and alternative investments.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with high net worth clients, advisors, and stakeholders.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and a high degree of professionalism.
