Our client, a well-established insurance company based in Long Island, is seeking a Director of Finance to lead financial reporting, statutory accounting, and financial operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be a key leader in the finance department of a growing organization.

Position Overview:
The Director of Finance will oversee financial reporting and compliance functions, ensuring adherence to statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements. This role will manage a team of three direct reports and work closely with senior leadership to drive financial strategy and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory guidelines.
  • Lead and mentor a team of three finance professionals, providing guidance on accounting policies and best practices.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, statutory filings, and NAIC reporting.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations and underwriting teams to align financial objectives with business goals.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in insurance accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, with a strong background in statutory accounting (SAP) and insurance industry regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing direct reports.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, GAAP vs. SAP differences, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with executive leadership.
