A small food manufacturing company is seeking a Procurement Manager to oversee the sourcing, purchasing, and supply chain operations. The Procurement Manager will be responsible for managing the entire procurement process for raw materials, packaging, and other supplies essential to the production of food products. This role requires expertise in sourcing, vendor management, negotiation, and inventory control. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food manufacturing procurement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with various departments to maintain smooth production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Forecast material needs based on production schedules and market trends to ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with new suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality standards.
  • Oversee and manage the procurement of raw materials, packaging, and indirect supplies in accordance with production needs.
  • Ensure purchase orders are processed in a timely manner and monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
  • Work closely with the production team to understand material needs and adjust orders accordingly.
  • Track procurement expenses and work within allocated budgets.
  • Analyze market conditions and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or production timelines.
  • Monitor and report on procurement KPIs, including cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory turnover.
  • Collaborate with the warehouse and inventory teams to ensure accurate stock levels are maintained.
  • Implement strategies to minimize waste, spoilage, or loss of perishable items.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials to prevent production delays.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but work equivalency will suffice.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in procurement, with a focus on food manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, and supply chain operations.
  • Experience with ERP and procurement software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar systems).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
